Stamps by Aztec
probably were used primarily with paint as body decoration or to decorate
festivals, the Aztecs wore face-paint and probably used small pottery stamps
such as this to imprint patterns on their cheeks or other body parts.
There are geometric and abstract motives, people,
monkeys and eagles, stylized versions of Quetzalcoatl, the Plumed Serpent, and
of other strange figures who may be gods or heroes.
